Ripple CTO Hints at Key Reason for Missing XRPL Data Shortly After Launch

XRPL

Shortly after its 2012 introduction, Ripple CTO David Schwartz revealed missing XRPL data in a series of recent tweets. In June 2012, the XRP Ledger was initially introduced. However, the oldest record of it only dates back to December 2012.

Schwartz was answering a question from a disgruntled Twitter user who wanted to know if there had been any XRP transactions in the blockchain’s early months, from July to November 2012, prior to Ripple’s incorporation.

The Ripple CTO said that there was no reason to store copies at the time and he wasn’t sure if anyone had done so. This is due to the fact that it was unlikely that anyone would still desire them years later. He went on to remark that the team had never thought to maintain data across changes in binary format.

Another Twitter user who was interested in learning more about the remarks made by the Ripple CTO wondered if the transactions and wallets that were present at the time will still remain on the XRPL.

The upgraded tools at the time were unable to grasp the new binary forms, according to Schwartz. The team had to trash the data since it was subsequently made useless as a result. He mentions that there’s a chance that a third party has copies of this old material, but he’s not aware of any such party.

The binary formats changed, making them incomprehensible to newer tools. When we did this, we just threw away the outdated data. Although there could have been others maintaining copies, Schwartz replied, “I don’t know of any.

Let’s get back to what started the conversation: the untrue assertion that Ripple invented XRP. Schwartz clears up this confusion by pointing out that while “XRP” was founded in June 2012, the firm that would become “Ripple” did not exist prior to September 2012.

The XRP Ledger (XRPL) was created in 2011 by three developers, David Schwartz, Jed McCaleb, and Arthur Britto. Code written by Arthur Britto on June 2, 2012, generated 100 billion XRP coins (then known as “XNS”). In formal circles, today is celebrated as XRP’s birthday.
