Ripple CTO Says Uniswap Is Not Decentralized

David Schwartz, the chief technical officer of Ripple, joined a conversation on Twitter over which cryptocurrencies are genuinely decentralised and which are not. He specifically made a statement regarding the well-known decentralised exchange Uniswap.

“Uniswap is not decentralized”

Schwartz responded to a tweet that @LefterisJP, the creator of @rotkiapp, had sent out. According to the latter, some cryptocurrency initiatives “opensource wash” their work to make it appear decentralised and open source.

The tweet specifically mentioned Uniswap v4, which was made available under a Business Software Licence (BSL). The latter makes sure that when a particular amount of time has passed since its release, software may become open source.

Because of this, according to @LefterisJP, Uniswap v4 is not open source. David Schwartz intervened to say that the first DEX, Uniswap, is not decentralised either.

The Ripple CTO tweeted a link to a previous tweet he had made in which he questioned if Uniswap v3 was truly a decentralised initiative. He then launched an attack at Uniswap v4. His justification for that attitude was that “it’s not decentralised” if “some person or group has an enforceable legal right to tell others how they can and cannot use it.”

Schwartz also pointed out that Uniswap Labs controls the company.
