Billy Markus, who co-founded and released the first meme cryptocurrency Dogecoin with Jackson Palmer in 2013, frequently discusses details about how he built DOGE as well as his overall stance towards DOGE and cryptocurrencies.
Markus has already been forced to respond to rumours about his net worth. Today, he responded to a Twitter user, disputing the charges once more.
Markus and Palmer made “hardly anything off of DOGE”
Billy Markus (also known as “Shibetoshi Nakamoto” on Twitter/X) tweeted earlier today that he would want to change the retirement age from the existing norm to 38 years old. He went a step farther, providing his own definition of “retired.” For the Dogecoin founders, this is an opportunity for “working on stuff you wanna work on.”
When a Twitter user told Markus, “You’re rich, stop acting poor,” “Shibetoshi Nakamoto” responded that he isn’t wealthy at all since he can’t afford to quit his work.

In an early 2022 tweet, Markus noted that he and Jackson Palmer “made hardly anything off of it,” referring to Dogecoin. He also commented on the large number of meme cryptocurrencies being created these days. Markus refers to them as “forced tokens,” and believes the only reason developers create them is to profit from gamblers. He concedes that some developers try to add value to their meme currencies.
According to Billy Markus, DOGE was created with the goal of being foolish and satirical. In November of last year, Markus responded on an article saying he is worth $5 million. He maintained that he did not possess the riches.

Markus recently disclosed the extent of his Bitcoin stockpile, and in previous tweets, he detailed how much Dogecoin he still had after abandoning his joke coin project shortly after its introduction in 2013.
Shibetoshi Nakamoto’s Bitcoin holdings are small, at 0.006 BTC. This is comparable to $310.09 at the time of writing. His Dogecoin stockpile has roughly 220,000 DOGE.
