Craig Wright, famed for claiming to be Satoshi Nakamoto, has lately come under fire from XRP lawyer John E. Deaton for what he sees as historical mistakes and outright lies.
Craig Wright’s alleged historical blunder
Deaton’s criticism appeared in a recent post on X, where he questioned Wright’s integrity. “Clearly, CSW is lying through his teeth,” Deaton said. “If he were Satoshi, he would recall transferring the first Bitcoin to Halfin. Which also implies that he isn’t a very good liar.
This severe reprimand comes after a controversial interaction during a judicial case in which Wright claimed to have transferred Bitcoin to “hundreds of people” as Satoshi but refused to identify a single name when asked by a judge.

Wright’s credibility has been weakened by recent court failures. The U.K. Supreme Court’s refusal of his appeal in a libel action against Peter McCormack, in which he was given paltry compensation of 1 GBP, demonstrates the judiciary’s scepticism of his claims to Satoshi’s identity. Despite his repeated protestations, the court declined to recognise Wright’s self-proclaimed role as Bitcoin’s founder.
Wright then pursued a new legal tactic, concentrating on establishing ownership of Bitcoin-related intellectual property. He filed litigation against engineers who maintain the open-source code, attempting to seize control over critical portions of the cryptocurrency’s infrastructure. However, his attempts have met with opposition, with legal commentators predicting that his tactics would backfire, especially in light of accumulating evidence questioning his genuineness.
Wright’s legal victories
Despite these obstacles, Wright won a court battle against Cobra, a well-known Bitcoin developer who maintains Bitcoin.org.
Last year, Wright obtained a permanent prohibition on Cobra and Bitcoin.org from spreading information about the Bitcoin whitepaper in the United Kingdom. This conclusion is a tactical success for Wright, but it provides little to support his claims to be Satoshi.
