Polkadot (DOT), Kusama (KSM) Now Connected via IBC, Here’s How

Polkadot

The “sister chain” or “canary network” Kusama (KSM), one of the major networks in the DotSama ecosystem, and Polkadot (DOT), the other are now seamlessly linked. The new approach makes use of the Cosmos (ATOM) ecosystem’s Inter-Blockchain Communication (IBC) standard.

IBC implementation by Composable Finance bridges Polkadot, Kusama: Introducing Centauri

Composable Finance, the company behind DeFi, has announced that a decentralised cross-network bridge between Polkadot (DOT) and its “canary network” Kusama (KSM) has been released. Centauri, the new product, is the first Inter-Blockchain Communication (IBC) standard implementation to go live outside the Cosmos (ATOM) ecosystem.

The new non-custodial value transfer vehicle enables quick and secure money transfers across the two growing blockchains Polkadot (DOT) and Kusama (KSM). With regard to DeFi development, this launch creates fresh possibilities for “yield farming” and non-custodial crypto trade.

KSM/DOT, PICA/DOT, and DOT/USDT liquidity pools now operational on Pablo DeFi by Composable Finance thanks to this bridge. A cap of 10,000 coins is enforced for each asset because the product and app are currently in open beta.

The Cosmos (ATOM) team is enthusiastic about this success and the ripple effects it may have on the cross-chain Web3 development community as a whole:

There will be polkadot on the Interchain. The first Polkadot-to-Kusama link was successfully created by Composable Finance using IBC. The IBC has never been used outside of Cosmos until now.

All cryptocurrency aficionados were asked by Centauri’s engineers to stress-test the new bridge and provide comments on various use techniques.

More IBC connections to be released soon

They also disclosed that the team are actively looking at more IBC instrument implementations. As a result, the protocol may become the standard for omni-chain compatibility.

As previously reported by U.Today, a number of bizarre experiments were planned to test the limits of IBC utilisation in DeFi in recent months.

A notion for using zk-proofs with IBC to create non-custodial goods using Cosmos (ATOM) and Ethereum (ETH) was presented in September 2022.
